Ce qu’il faut savoir :

Sans la présence sur l’arme d’un marquage spécifique (initiales, sigle, logo…), il est pratiquement impossible d’identifier le fabricant d’une arme belge antérieure à 1914.

Généralement, seuls les modèles dignes d’un quelconque intérêt (économique, commercial ou pour des raisons de prestige) portaient la marque de la société vendeuse.

Toutes ces firmes présentaient généralement dans leurs catalogues les mêmes types d’armes.

Lorsqu’une arme présente une ou des particularités techniques spécifiques, si on peut retrouver le titulaire du brevet et mettre un nom sur l’inventeur, cela ne permet toujours pas d’identifier avec certitude le fabricant.

La datation, tâche tout aussi ardue. La seule certitude réside dans la présence du poinçon du Banc d’Epreuves de Liège :

D’autres poinçons, lorsqu’ils figurent, permettent de préciser une fourchette de dates : PV, Perron, R couronné, le poinçon du contrôleur…

Connaissant ce qui précède, ne demandez pas l’impossible, si vous pensez qu’une identification est réalisable, il est nécessaire d’avoir un maximum de données :

de bonnes photos détaillées (lisibles) ou un passage au scanner (quand c’est possible) des différents poinçons, sigles, marques, inscriptions… (éventuellement un dessin précis) figurant sur l’arme, rien ne remplacera jamais un examen de visu.

Préciser le calibre et/ou la munition supposée peut également s’avérer très utile.

Faire une description détaillée en donnant un maximum de détails facilitera le travail de recherches.
